The characters would have had more time to develop. I think this should have been a trilogy instead of just the two books. The book lacked suspense, it lacked tension because of it. And then it tells you again in case you missed it. It doesn't let you figure things out about the plot or the characters. I didn't care much about the plot either and that in part had to do with the writing. Edan was absent half the time, and when he did show up he didn't really do much. I would have wanted her to give in to the darkness a little more, but then again, I do love a good descent into darkness story.

Even Maia, pretty much remains the same, despite her impending transformation. Maybe it was because I didn't get the sense that there was too much development with them. I didn't care for Maia or Edan (although I do still like him), and I didn't care for what they did or how they did it. In order to care about the events, I have to care about the characters its all happening to. About anything that happened.įor me to enjoy a book, I have to care about the things happening in it. Unfortunately, I just didn't care all that much. In this book, the stakes are raised, the characters (mostly Maia because Edan doesn't grow and no other character actually matters) have to find a way to keep the peace and save the land from the greed of both men and demons. There was a lot that could have been expanded on and explaned better that would have let the story play out a bit more, without all of the hustle in the second part of the book, but I'm ok with how it ended. I do think that there really could have been another book to this series. I'm not entirely sure how the magic worked but it was interesting to see how they interacted with Maia and other characters. The dresses still played a part in this story, which was fun to watch. At leaset in the end, it did show that they still cared deeply for one antother. Of course Maia, going through what she was, didn't leave a lot of room for romance. Edan was barely there this time and wasn't quite himself.

We got to see a bit of Edan but it wasn't like the first book. Though there were times that she said or did things that were not quite her, the will to save her country and people always won out. I loved watchig the struggle going on with Maia. The beginning of the book started off a bit of a bore to me but when it picked up, it picked up. I did really like how dark it got though.

I'm stuck between a 3 1/2 and 4 star rating. It was a good story and a lot happened, but I feel like something was missing. For the most part I enjoyed this conclusion the the story but I struggle to give it an overall rating.
